On Thursday, Sept. 17th, the Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation and Coalition had the pleasure of partnering with Northwest Workforce Council and WorkSource to host the Marine Trades Job Fair at the Fisherman's Pavilion. Held right on the water, the event brought together job seekers and employers for a day dedicated to a simple goal: connecting people to careers on the waterfront.

Gina Finazzo began her journey with the Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation as an intern while pursuing her degree in Urban Planning and Sustainable Development at Western Washington University's College of the Environment.

This year the pre-apprenticeship was completed by 18 young adults looking to break into the maritime industry. Backed by a powerhouse network of instructors and industry partners from across the waterfront, these students dove headfirst into hands-on workshops, worksite tours, job shadows, and a two-week work experience with our participating employers.

For the last few months, something exciting has been quietly taking shape at 708 Coho Way: the Maritime Library! We have been growing our educational reach by collecting books from the community — all things maritime.

Our newest crew member, Darcey Maher Peterson, has assumed the role of Program Coordinator for the Buoyant Beginnings Pre-Apprenticeship.
