Meet the Crew!

Our newest crew member, Darcey Maher Peterson, has assumed the role of Program Coordinator for the Buoyant Beginnings Pre-Apprenticeship. She joined us at the beginning of May, just in time for the second year of the program to get rolling! Darcey joined us with extensive practical and professional knowledge, ready to help usher our newest group of pre-apprentices into the workforce. She started her maritime life at a very young age and has been here ever since. “Darcey has long been a part of the maritime world. Born into the helm of a commercial fishing family, Darcey spent her youth navigating the deck of a Southeast Alaska long-lining vessel.”

The Buoyant Beginnings program will be starting up again in July, and the newest round of students could not be luckier to be instructed by someone as capable as Darcey. She is no stranger to leading crews to success; “Darcey became known as Cpt. DAMP and was employed on passenger ferries, yachts, and long-boats, ultimately completing her last charter with a baby strapped to her chest.” She is more than capable of showing the newest group of pre-apprentices the ropes of maritime careers and ensuring they’ve got their sea legs ready to go.

As we expand our team, we could think of no one else we would rather take over as the Buoyant Beginnings Program Coordinator! The next time you come by make sure to introduce yourself to Darcey and welcome her to the Working Waterfront Community!
