Gina Finazzo began her journey with the Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation as an intern while pursuing her degree in Urban Planning and Sustainable Development at Western Washington University's College of the Environment. She joined the Foundation in Spring 2025, eager to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the mission of the organization from day one. Over the course of her internship, she immersed herself in the Foundation's work, building relationships within the community and developing a deeper understanding of the waterfront's role in Whatcom County. This June, now a graduate, she officially stepped into a new role as the Foundation's Program Assistant, bringing her passion, experience, and fresh perspective into the position full-time.

Growing up in Lake Forest Park, Washington, a town on the northern end of Lake Washington with the Pacific Ocean not ten minutes away, Gina was inspired early on by nature and the beauty of the water. She grew up outdoors, fishing and hiking, often spending weekends in Hood Canal with her extended family. During her time at Western, she completed the Certificate in Climate Leadership and specialized in Sustainable Design alongside her major, with hopes of contributing professionally to sustainability efforts across the Pacific Northwest. She's passionate about educating and engaging with her community on climate change, and how we can adapt our working and social practices to protect our natural resources for generations to come.

Gina is excited to connect further with the waterfront community and support the ongoing work of the Working Waterfront Foundation and Coalition to the best of her ability. We're thrilled to have her officially welcome her to the team!
